Schmuck als künstlerisches Medium in der Galerie Biró
1992 wurde die Galerie Biró von Olga Zobel Biró in der Münchener Maxvorstadt, unweit der Pinakotheken, gegründet, als weltweit einzige Kunststoffschmuck Galerie. Das strenge Konzept der Galerie hatte sich zum Ziel gesetzt den ästhetischen Aspekt des Materials, das unser Jahrhundert prägte, aufzuzeigen. Mit großer Freude entdeckte Olga Zobel Biró damals die holländischen Künstler Gijs Bakker und Paul Derrez, oder Peter Chang, aus Glasgow, Thomas Gentile aus New York, Pavel Opocensky aus Prag, nur um einige zu nennen. Alle schufen zu der Zeit wunderbare Schmuckstücke aus Kunststoff. Der erste Katalog der Galerie „Kunststoff Schmuck Kunst“ entstand.
Auch durch internationale Ausstellungen und Publikationen wurde der Kunststoff über die Jahre salonfähig. Nach der anfänglichen Pionierarbeit erweiterte sich das Konzept der Galerie. Mit der Zeit wurde es selbstverständlich, dass Schmuckkünstler mit unterschiedlichsten Materialien arbeiten, die explizite Hinwendung zum Kunststoff somit obsolet.
Zum 10-jährigen Jubiläum der Galerie, im Jahre 2002, erschien ein weiterer Katalog, dieser war nun den Sammlern gewidmet, weitere Publikationen folgen.
Mit internationalen Ausstellungen, wie in Sarajevo, Melbourne, Tallinn, Nicosia, oder Budapest haben wir den Schmuck einem weiten Publikum bekannt gemacht. Seit 2000 kuratiert die Galerie Biró auch in Cagnes sur Mer, Frankreich, fortlaufend internationale Ausstellungen zu denen immer begleitend ein Katalog erscheint. Im Jahre 2016 übernahm das Museum „Villa Stuck“ mit einer eigenen Publikation die für Frankreich konzipierte Ausstellung „GlAmour“ für München.
Seit 2010 nun ist Kinga Zobel, als Partnerin, zu der Galerie gekommen. Mit ihren eigenen Projekten erweitert sie das Angebot der Galerie und kümmert sich um die Digitalisierung. Eines ihrer ersten Projekte war die „SCHMUCK-Show“ im MaximiliansForum in München.

Jewelry as an artistic medium at Galerie Biró
In 1992 Galerie Biró was founded by Olga Zobel Biró in Munich's Maxvorstadt, not far from the Pinakotheken, as the world's only plastic jewelry gallery. The strict concept of the gallery aimed to show the aesthetic aspect of the material that shaped our century.
With great pleasure Olga Zobel Biró discovered at that time the Dutch artists Gijs Bakker and Paul Derrez, and Peter Chang, from Glasgow, Thomas Gentile from New York, Pavel Opocensky from Prague, just to name a few. All of them created wonderful pieces of jewelry from plastic at the time. The first catalog of the gallery "Plastic Jewelry Art" was published.
Through international exhibitions and publications, plastic became more and more respectable over the years. After the initial pioneering work, the concept of the gallery expanded. Over time, it became evident that jewelry artists work with a wide variety of materials, and the explicit focus on plastic thus became obsolete.
On the occasion of the gallery's 10th anniversary, in 2002, another catalog was published, this one now dedicated to collectors, with further publications to follow.
With international exhibitions, such as in Sarajevo, Melbourne, Tallinn, Nicosia, or Budapest, we have made the jewelry known to a wide audience. Since 2000, on an ongoing basis, Galerie Biró also curates international exhibitions in Cagnes sur Mer, France, always accompanied by a catalog. In 2016, the museum "Villa Stuck" in Munich took over the exhibition "GlAmour", conceived for France, with its own publication.
Since 2010 now Kinga Zobel, as a partner, has joined the gallery. With her own projects she expands the gallery's offer and takes care of the digitalization. One of her first projects was the "SCHMUCK-Show" at the MaximiliansForum in Munich.
